The Color Purple
by Alice Walker
All enjoyed the book which touched on the fundamental themes of feminism, racism, spirituality and the importance of family.
Particularly notable was the strong characterisation of the women.
The structure, involving letters addressed to God and between the two sisters, Celie and Nettie, was effective - deceptively simple, very readable but multi-layered.
The discussion deepened insight in and enjoyment of the book.
