Everybody enjoyed this book. The depth of the characterisation was particularly appreciated.

The authentic voices of the different characters revealed depths and sympathetic facets in even the most racist character. The style was simple, unpretentious and very moving. The telling of the story from the perspectives of the different individuals was effective and the sense of history and place brilliantly evoked.
