The Curious Incident
by Mark Haddon
This was generally appreciated as a good and enjoyable book as a one-off read whilst not necessarily warranting the huge critical acclaim heaped upon it.
It was written in a very accessible and straightforward way representing the thought processes of its autistic protagonist.
This made it an easy read but resulted in a lack of depth and layering.
Nonetheless it was very thought-provoking and original and offered real insight into the working of Christopher’s mind, despite some gaps and inconsistencies in the plot.
It provoked an interesting discussion about autism and Asperger’s Syndrome drawing upon personal and professional experiences of some group members.
