Snow
by Orhan Pamuk
Opinions about the book varied but everyone enjoyed it and unusually ended up giving it a unanimous 4-star rating.
Some found the language problematic, rather clumsy and muddled, possibly as a result of difficulties with the translation, whilst others found it rich and intimate.
Certainly it was difficult to empathise entirely with any of the characters with Ka in particular pursuing his own self-centred agenda.
With snow-bound Kars as the setting, the desolate location provoked a forlorn sense of not belonging and alienness.
Everyone found the book at times confusing and difficult to follow but agreed that the subject matter was very interesting and relevant to contemporary events around the world.
