A Short History of Tractors
by Marina Lewycka
There was quite a mixed reaction to this book - which reflected the reviews some of which were deeply admiring,
others less so with “a clever, touching story” (Daily Telegraph) at one end and “an occcasionaly amusing but overall very unpleasant novel” (Complete Review) at the other.
Some of our group found the book uproariously funny whilst the humour was obviously wasted on others.
For some of us the characterisation worked extremely well whilst for others it lacked credibility.
The book dealt with matters of historical and human interest which worked for some of us but to others seemed contrived.
