A Long Way Down
by Nick Hornby
Another mixed reaction to this book with some of us finding it enjoyable and funny while others thought it loathsome and offensive.
Certainly there was agreement amongst those familiar with Hornby’s work that it is not his best.
Some of us thought the subject matter inappropriate to such treatment and found the characters unsympathetic and repellent with no redeeming features.
Others were able to sympathise with the characters (except Martin) with Maureen’s story being particularly touching.
