The Lovely Bones
by Alice Sebold
Whilst some of us found the situation presented in the book somewhat contrived there was general agreement that it was very readable.
Some found the opening passages incredibly disturbing and nightmare-inducing, although generally this did not extend beyond the opening chapters.
The writing was moving and powerful, sometimes beautiful.
The characters and their relationships were skillfully drawn although some found the ending disappointing and a bit too contrived.
There were elements of suspense in the book giving it the aspect of a psychological thriller although not all elements were resolved in the way the reader would like.
