A Thousand Splendid Suns
by Khaled Hosseini
There were some mixed views on this book.
To some of us it was beautifully and appropriately written, an absolutely enthralling tale accurately and sympathetically reflecting the suffering of women in a fractured and fragmented society.
Although dealing with horrifying events the book came across as positive and optimistic.
Some of the group had reservations thinking that it was probably written with an eye to the film rights and not really enjoying it on an emotional level.
Everyone saw some merit in it and came away with some increased knowledge of the recent history of the disturbing events in Afghanistan which give an informative backdrop to the story.
