Everyone enjoyed this beautifully written book and felt that they had learnt something from it.

The stories of the committed and often eccentric group of individuals who campaigned to abolish the slave trade using many of the methods which today are commonplace for the first time are compellingly told. Wilberforce and Newton of “Amazing Grace” fame play their part but so too do other less well-known and more radical figures like Granville Sharp, Elizabeth Heyrick and, above all, Thomas Clarkson.

The book is eminently readable, avoids being overly academic and is ultimately very optimistic. The only criticism was that the print was too small!
