Wildwood -
A Journey Through Trees
by Roger Deakin.
Most people enjoyed Pete’s choice which reflected his own passion for wood.
The author is knowledgeable, erudite and eccentric with a gift for lyrical and poetic writing on a subject obviously very dear to his own heart.
Some found the book easy to read, others less so though most agreed that it would have benefited from a bit of pruning – or even coppicing or pollarding.
There was a tendency to verbosity and whilst it flagged a bit at times it was re-invigorated by adventures in exotic locations working effectively as a travel book.
Several of us were inspired to take up tree-hugging.
