There was general agreement that the book was well-written with some intriguing and unexpected plot twists.

Those of us who were familiar with the location and the history spotted some inaccuracies but as a work of fiction it works well and throws light into some dark historical corners. The facts surrounding the notorious Katyn massacre, for example, have only come fully to light in recent years. Although most of us were unable to follow the intricacies of the code-breaking process the book does aid understanding and certainly highlights some moral dilemmas.

Generally speaking the characterization was good with some of the protagonists entirely fictional and others based on real Bletchley Park characters. The descriptions and evocation of time and place worked well and most of us found ourselves absorbed by this intriguing yarn.
