Life After Life

Life After Life
by Kate Atkinson.

Chosen by Jan, who described the book as being 'not great literature, but certainly a superior beach read'. This novel was light and easy to read in spite of the dark subject matter. The characters were believable and indeed identifiable - apart from Ursula who changed depending upon which version of events one might be reading!

The book made for interesting debates about deja vue and reincarnation and initially when reading it seemed almost all of us wondered if we had turned over two pages at some points - or even had a memory lapse as the story moved without a blink from Fox corner to tea and cakes with Eva Braun (and yes we agreed that one had had to be generous to take the Hitler bits seriously) as if etc

The chapters were very well drawn - perhaps for some too well drawn, but nevertheless this demonstrated Kate Atkinson's abilities as a good story teller...however uncomfortable the topic.

Hard to get into, but once the reader's head was in it this book was a cracking good read and scored a popular 4 big ones.
