August 2015:

Summer Salads Special

Summer Salads

Summer Salads

This was a cross between a book club and a social gathering. Owing to the balmy summer evening, we spent the night swapping yarns, and overlooked the recipe books.

The food was brilliant, multiple salads prepared with skill and years of experience, artisitically displayed, mostly very healthy (and even the muffins were "carrots in disguise"). For a full list of dishes, please go to: Fun, Food, and Friends

Real Cooking is not about slavishly following a recipe, it's about creatively using good ingredients to make an attractive and nutritious dish. However, a professional recipe is often a good starting point, and occasionally a new flavour combination comes to light. So it is worth looking at the recipe books for inspiration.

These are the recipe books that I found on the table this morning:

Plenty More by Yottam Ottolenghi The Return of the Naked Chef by Jamie Oliver Real Cooking by Nigel Slater The Cooking of India, by Santha Rama Rau; 1969
The Food of Italy by Claudia Roden
