A Sea of Salads buffet - August 22nd, 2015

Nibbles and munchies

  • Prosecco

    Chris said "We had three bottles before we started drinking".

Salads

  • Seafood Salad

    Only Lynn knows how this goes, the prawns were huge.

  • Salata di Caprese

    An artisitic arrangements of mozarella cheese and tomatoes giving alternate red and white slices interleaved with basil leaves.

  • Green Beans

  • Brown Rice Salad

    With a slight turmeric flavour and colour and chckpeas with a hint of coconut, this was an Indian style dish with mild spicing.

  • White Rice Salad

  • Couscous Salad

    Jan's unique approach to Couscous salad produced a unique dish.

  • Grapes Salad

    Grapes, apples, gruyere on a bed of rocket and watercress with specific dressing on the side.
    This was straight from Caludia Roden's book, and hit all the high notes with Chris.

  • Tabouleh

    Big bunch of parsley, fist of mint, chopped tomatoes, spring onions and bulgur wheat, with a lemon juice and oil dressing on the side.

Condiments

  • Raita (Rayta)

    Suresh's book contains 6 recipes for Rayta, some with veggies like aubergine, or tomato and cucumber; one with onion and chilli , one with chick pea flour balls, and one with banana and coconut.

  • Flavoured Oil and Balsamic Vinegar

    Next time we will use these as a starter with bread.

  • Broad Bean Dip

    The persistence of Janet produced this one!

  • Fairtrade Za'atar

    Staple condiment at 33 Westbourne, goes with bread and oil and vinegar.

Savouries

  • Feta Cheese and Olives Savoury Cake

    Recipe available from the Fairtade Cookbok website.

  • Roasted Garlic and Red Pepper Hummus

    Roast the garlic to get the skins off, grill the peppers and add to the standard hummus ongredients.

  • Bread Buns

    50-50 Malted / Strong wHite flours with cinnamon, chilli and fennel extras.

  • Cheese selection

    Cambazola, Harrogate Blue, Mexicana, Applewood

Sweet meats

  • Fruit Salad

    Chopped: peaches, apples, oranges, pears, nectarines, and strawberries.

  • Carrots in disguise

    As near as you can get to a healthy muffin.
