Goals and learning approach
What you are trying to achieve needs to drive your approach.
Ringing by structure
Get going:.
Take care to place the band for best outcome.
9-0 are the easiest pair, coursing all the way except for the split lead.
3-4 are fairly easy having two leads in 3-4 pattern hunting, and the rest in 2-3 pattern.
7-8 are a bit harder than 3-4 but have the advantage of the tenors ringing between them in the coursing order.
5-6 are the next hardest, starting in opposites and ringing most of the course in 4-5 pattern hunting
1-2 are the hardest pair with a change of hunting pattern almost every lead.
Performance Level
If you are wishing to achieve Quarters, or peals:
start with the "get going" as above, add in the bits that are natural to you.
Study the Lead End positions, and the lines.
Practice a lot.
Once 7-8 and 9-0 are in reliable, Plain Bob Royal becomes very stable.
Achieve some
performances .
Method Mastery Level
For a band to achieve
mastery
in a method like Plain Bob Royal (a valid goal), much practice is needed, together with clear application of coursing order.
