Origins and Impact
The Hull Handbells Project had its origins in the latent handbell ringing skills of the webmaster together with a chance meeting associated with the CCCBR meeting in East Yorkshire in 2015.
With the support of the Beverley and District Ringing Society and the East Riding Ringing Centre, a training course for beginners was held in October 2016,
and a regular meeting was then assured until the disruption caused by the covid pandemic.
The impact of the project can best be judged by the ringing records linked from this website.
Purely to please the history nerds, the records linked from this website cover as much handbell change-ringing as possible within the geographical scope.
No claim is made by the inclusion of handbell change-ringing subsequent to the inception of the project as part of the Hull Handbells Project unless published as such.
Scope
The geographical scope of the project is restricted to East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire plus the inclusion of friends and family in far-flung places like Elland, Invergarry and Malmo.
The cultural sope of the project is restricted to change ringing on handbells.
However, we contend that method knowledge and method ringing skills, as acquired by handbell ringers gives those ringers a significant advantage in the tower.
