Ross was the second child and first and only son of George Samuel Johnson and Jane Skelton.

Samuel Ross was enumerated as a 2 year old male living in the Myton district of Hull.

1935: Ross met his future wife Gladys Muriel Rowe when he was best man at the wedding of his friend, Douglas Pinder, Gladys was the bridesmaid.

1940: 7th September 19403. Ross married4 Gladys Rowe.

1941: 5th May 1941: Ross was called up, and he joined the Royal Pioneer Corps.
1944: Christine was born.
1945: Ross was discharged from the Army.
1968: 30th August, 1968, Ross died in Hull at the age of 58 years, his occupation being given as a General Labourer at the tannery5.
