Learning a composition
Personal learning preferences will influence your approach, but here are some tips that work if you do the work thoroughly.
Write out the composition in its simplest form, by layout in columns.
Write out the coursing orders.
Analyse the coursing orders for round blocks.
Ensure you know what your pair of bells does at each call.
Find the composition on complib, and get it to display the lines for the pair that you will be ringing.
Check the coursing order changes that you have written out against what complib shows that the bells will be doing; make sure you got it right.
Memorise the sequence of calls.
Mentally revise the sequence of calls until you are sure you have them right.
Run through the composition lead end by lead end for what your pair does and whether you make a call.
Run through the composition lead end by lead end for the changes to coursing order.
Unless you are a Cambridge Mathmo or already a member of MENSA don't try to transpose the coursing orders, memorise them; it's the easiest way
When you know the coursing order structure of the composition you are ready to practice the calling.
