Rice Farming in Sri Lanka is hit by both climate change and the World Bank.
Rice Farming feeds 1.8 million people in Sri Lanka, but more are going hungry.
Link to the Rice Farming article More rain, stronger winds, colder nights, hotter days, and saltier water are wiping out rice crops.
To see the Christian Aid Statement on Sri Lanka, click: Christian Aid in Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka rice is life. Yet the World Bank does not want Sri Lankan farmers to grow rice. Small-scale domestic rice production cannot deliver the sort of profit margins the Bank demands. Farmers have been prevented from growing rice and have been led into extreme poverty, destitution and a wave of suicides.
"What can I do?".
Buy a Lanka Kade Jigsaw as a Christmas present from Sri Lanka at Hull One World Shop. Hull Fairtrade City Project and Hull One World Shop support the campaign for Trade Justice. Buying Fairtrade Products from Hull One World Shop is the simplest easy way of supporting Trade Justice.
Talk to the staff, hidden behind every one of the Fair Trade products there is a wonderful human story.
