February 2016, "Spring" and "Renewal"

Eight story tellers, two friendly dogs, and the sea at the end of the garden, in Witherenzee.

Icon for theme

Spring and Renewal

The theme proved to be a story telling challenge, and the connection between the theme and some of the stories was tenuous to say the least. But we know a lot more about sheep, lambs, and the East Riding dialect. What we don't know is whether the Irish brothers ever got back their magic cow from the giant.

Dot

Life on the farm is never simple especially when people can disappear down a hole, or the apple pie contains only onions.

Cath

Regaled us with the symbolism of peacock's feathers and the need for a con trick to keep the sun shining.

Steve

Steve's three Irish brothers and their magic cow led to a merry dance, 900 babies all at once, and the creation of the seals.

Frances

Recounted how the sly Mr Fox met his comeuppance at the hands of a shrewd young lady.

Peter

Told us how the youthful farmhand Johnny Cortin found his spooky story but nearly drowned in the process.

Elaine

Gave us the old lady and the fleece that needed washing, why we get snowdrops and daffodils in February, and why the weather in August is dreadful.

Ann

Ann's rap put a spring in your step.

Andrea

Andrea turned an encounter with Roy and his dog, Bonnie, into an amusing monologue.

Andrea

Told us how World War 3 broke out at the bottom of her garden at 6am but peace broke out again before breakfast.
