Thomas Crimlisk grew up in north western Ireland and became a coastguard in 1825 at the age of 21. He moved with his young family to England in 1838, and they settled in Filey where his family prospered as fishing folk.

1803/4: Thomas Crimlisk was born1 in Ardara, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
1825: Thomas Crimlisk married Catherine McDevitt.1
1825 (18th April): Thomas Crimlisk and Catherine left Ardara for Killybegs where Thomas Crimlisk joined the Preventive Service as a Coastguard1.
1825 (11th June): Thomas Crimlisk and Catherine moved to Dunaff, Dunaff Head, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
1825 - 1830: Thomas Crimlisk was based in Dunaff working as a coastguard.
1827: Mary born.
1828: Margaret was born.
1830: Thomas Crimlisk moved (with his family) to Kilgalligan, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
1830: Francis was born.
1832: John was born.
1833: Thomas Crimlisk and family left Kilgalligan and moved to Doolough, Co. Mayo.
1834: James born.
1836: Thomas Crimlisk and family left Doolough and moved to Cleggan, Co. Galway.

1857: Thomas Crimlisk retired from the Preventive Service.
By the time of the 1861 Census, Thomas and his family had returned to Filey, this move was probably immediately following his retirement.

Thomas Crimlisk: is deviantly recorded as Thomas Crimlesk. He was living with William and Elizabeth Day, and their 6 sons at 40 Bridge Street, Leeds. Thomas is recorded as aged 70 which is at variance with other records.

1886: Thomas Crimlisk died6 in Leeds, Yorkshire whilst at the home of his son-in-law William Day.
(NB. The age shown on FreeBMD (age 64) is inconsistent with birth (1804) and death (1886) dates.)
