November 2017 - AGM and Plotting

Stairs to the Plotting Parlour

With the blessing of the landlord, the club members (Cath, Elaine, Roslyn, Anna, Peter, Sue, Suresh, Steve and Ellie, plus Kenneth and friends from Stavanger) spent the evening (in the Plotting Parlour of Ye Olde White Harte) electing members to the committee, chewing the cud, and making decisions (16 minutes).

The Plotting Parlour is reputedly where the decision was taken to refuse entry to the city to King Charles, thereby precipitating the English Civil Wars. For more information on this excellent public house, see: Ye Olde White Harte

Cath

Explained how a shape shifting crow created sunshine and light for 6 months.

Kenneth

Told us the origins of Kingdoms, government, law and democracy.

Elaine

Recounted the tale of "No Luck Man" who missed out on the treasure and the beautiful girl, but not the hungry lion.

Roslyn

Recounted the "Water Wars" of Haltemprice and the west HUll villages between about 1200 and 1518.

Steve

The story of the Water Horses, including daughters, stepdaughters, full fishing nets, barefoot dancing, sunken ships.

Elaine

Cap o' Rushes and the need for salt (the daughter makes her point, but not quickly).

Cath

The happy man has no shirt.

Peter

How the travelling stranger met the three men in black; he survived, the cottage didn't
